- What is it for

​This medication is used to treat diarrhoea.

- Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can cause?

  • ​Common side effects of this medication include headaches, numbness and gastrointestinal tract discomfort.
  • This preparation may cause drowsiness.
    • If affected do not drive or operate machinery.
Rare but serious side effects include:
  • Swollen face/eyes/lips/tongue
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Itchy skin rashes over your whole body
If you experience any of these symptoms, you should stop your medication and see your healthcare professional immediately.

Before taking , what precautions must I follow?

​Inform your healthcare professional if: 

  • You are allergic to this medication or any of the other ingredients of this medication.
  • You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • You are taking any other medications, including supplements, traditional medications and herbal remedies.
  • You have kidney or liver disease. 
  • If symptoms do not resolve after three days or if diarrhoea is bloody.

What food or medicine must I avoid when I take ?

​Medications which cause drowsiness/dizziness may have this effect increased when used concurrently with this medication.

How should be used?

  • You may take this medication with or without food. 
  • Do not exceed eight tablets in 24 hours.
  • Stop treatment when your bowel movement returns to normal unless directed otherwise by your healthcare professional.
  • Continue to take appropriate fluid and electrolytes to prevent dehydration.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

​If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Then take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take two doses to make up for the missed dose.
