Local Medical Students Posting
The Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) undergraduate rotations are designed to develop well-rounded clinically competent medical students in all aspects of medicine. SKH has a range of clinical specialties, and a comprehensive span of patient case mixes. The clinical rotations are structured to provide a balanced and diverse exposure to inpatient, outpatient and occasional long-term care populations.
During the rotations, students work closely with clinicians whose interests span, not only clinical work but also medical education, research and healthcare administration. We have a team of dedicated clinical faculty who provide the best possible tutelage in various branches of medicine and specialty care. We host medical students from the following local medical schools:
Duke-NUS Medical School
NUS Yong Loo Ling School of Medicine
NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine
Overseas trained Medical Students Posting
There are opportunities available for overseas trained medical students to apply for their clinical electives at Sengkang General Hospital. The clinical electives must be part of the school’s curriculum and/or requirement.
Students can be attached at Sengkang General Hospital from 2 weeks (minimum) to 12 weeks (maximum). They will be appointed a clinical supervisor who will supervise and assess them throughout the attachment.

Local Nursing Students Posting
In Sengkang General Hospital (SKH), we receive students from local academic institutions such as Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), and the National University of Singapore (NUS) for their clinical placements.
Their postings vary from 2 weeks to 2.5 months in clinical, and spread according to their years of study in general medical and surgical disciplines. Nursing students are only posted to specialized areas like Emergency Department and Operating Theatre in their final year of study.
In normal academic posting, nursing students in their year 1, 2 and pre-final year attachment, will have assigned Clinical Instructors (CI) to guide them in clinical. The final year nursing students do a 9-10 week internship with Clinical Preceptors (CP) to learn their transition role as Registered Nurses or Enrolled Nurses. All first-time nursing students in SKH will go through both hospital and ward orientations.
Allied Health Professions Students Posting
SKH Allied Health Division hosts students studying in the various AHP programmes, such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Radiography, Clinical Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, Medical Social Services, Audiology, Podiatry and Dietetics & Nutrition from local and overseas schools.
Posting duration period range from 2 weeks to 6 months.
The collaboration between various divisions and local PSEIs are made available to prepare students readily to apply theoretical/ clinical knowledge as well as build up their confidence in clinical skills before every student step into their working environment.
There are also opportunities available for overseas trained AHP students to apply for their clinical electives at Sengkang General Hospital.
