Dr Chue Koy Min is a Consultant in the Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery Service, Department of Surgery, Sengkang General Hospital. Dr Chue graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore with honours in 2014, being awarded the Oliveiro Memorial Gold Medal, Tan Choon Kim Book Prize, as well as being on the Dean’s List multiple times.
He subsequently underwent his General Surgery Residency training in 2014, and obtained the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2015 and the Master of Medicine (Surgery) in 2018. During his residency, he also obtained his postgraduate Master of Science (Surgical Sciences) with the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, University of Edinburgh, where he was the Top-performing student for the Certificate of Surgical Sciences and graduated with distinction in 2017. He completed his residency training in 2021 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (General Surgery) in 2021, where he was awarded the College of Surgeons Gold Medal for being the best performing candidate in the General Surgery Exit Examinations. He was subsequently accredited as a Specialist in General Surgery by the Specialist Accreditation Board of Singapore in 2021. In 2022, he further obtained his Fellowship of the European Board of Surgery in Minimally Invasive Surgery and was similarly awarded the Top-Class Awards for being the Top-performing candidate in the Fellowship examinations for that year. In 2023, he was awarded the prestigious Young Surgeons’ Award from the College of Surgeons, Singapore.
His clinical interests are in minimally invasive surgery, benign and malignant esophagogastric disorders as well as bariatric and metabolic surgery. He also has a keen interest in clinical nutrition and is part of the Parenteral Nutrition Support Team in Sengkang General Hospital.
Dr Chue strongly believes in the evidence-based medical treatment for his patients and is active in medical research. He has been involved in both clinical and translational research, including animal research. He has authored numerous scientific publications in various peer-reviewed journals and presented widely in international conferences. He was awarded the 1st prize for his poster presentation during the 19th Asian Congress of Surgery, as well as the Best Poster Award for the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society of Emergency Medicine Singapore in 2013. He has also published a textbook chapter and served as a journal reviewer. He is currently actively involved in clinical trials and translational research. He has received numerous research grants, including the Singhealth Surgery ACP (Budding Researcher) Grant, Sengkang General Hospital Internal Research Grant, Singhealth Duke-NUS Regenerative Medicine and Cell Therapy Grant, Singhealth Duke-NUS Nurturing Clinician Scientist Award, Khoo Pilot Award and the prestigious National Medical Research Council Research Training Fellowship. He was also awarded the Toh Kian Chui PhD Research Scholarship in 2023, to pursue his PhD studies on metagenomic influences on obesity.
Dr Chue also has a strong passion in medical education, being actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and was awarded the outstanding faculty award in 2021/2022. He has served as the Assistant Convenor for the Phase III and Phase V Examinations for the degrees of MBBS with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, was involved as an examiner for both the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School examinations for the degrees of MBBS and MD respectively, and is also involved in the postgraduate Master of Medicine (Surgery) examinations as an examiner and question setter, organised by the Division of Graduate Studies, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He is also an instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course with the American College of Surgeons.
