Associate Professor Benita Tan, Chairman, Division of Surgery and Chairperson of the Green Environmental Committee, SKH, is driven by her love for humanity and nature. Her childhood upbringing instilled a strong environmental consciousness, shaping her ongoing commitment to conservation. Alongside her medical duties, she actively promotes environmental protection within SKH where she collaborates across departments to advance sustainable practices and boost recycling rates. Dr Benita also advocates innovative solutions like repurposing bed sheets to reduce waste. Her goal is to extend SKH’s Clean & Green Day nationally, increasing awareness of the relationship between quality patient care and environmental impact through efficient use of resources. She highlights the health risks associated with climate change and believes there are many similarities between improving medical care and environmental stewardship such as preventive measures, meticulous management, and research efforts.
